Welcome to Mowia. This website has been a side project of mine for four years, and I'm very happy to introduce it to the world. While the website infrastructure that you can access is roughly 3% complete, the workings under the hood are nearly finished, and this means a lot of exciting, powerful, and fun tools will be made available to you over the coming years.
What is Mowia? I like to refer to it as a "collaborative content management system," or CCMS. In plain English, Mowia is a very large user message board that is structured and built on tools that make it very easy for the end user to navigate and access information. Since the birth of the internet, discussion forums have relied on the same structure and layout that makes it near impossible to find the information you're looking for when a forum grows large. Search engines only help you so much. Mowia was designed to solve this large forum problem and in doing so Mowia also creates a new set of tools that make your forum browsing more rewarding. So how does it work?
When you first enter a forum, you are presented with every single user discussion that exists within the forum you are browsing. In the case of Technology & Internet, which is the first of twenty-one major forum categories that will eventually be available, you would be looking at discussions from the over 400 different sub-forums that fall under Technology & Internet. By selecting a sub-forum, such as Computer Hardware, you begin to narrow down your search. You are then presented only with the discussions that are related to Computer Hardware. Once you reach the forum you are looking for, the discussions will represent the content you are looking for-- and nothing more.
Some forum topics aren't easily represented in a forum, or the content isn't being used to its full potential. Mowia solves this problem through "modules" that let you view specific types of forum discussions in an easier to understand way. For example, our cooking forum, when released, will have a module that lets you find recipes. Sure, you
could go to one of the other recipe forums on the internet, but then you may have a hard time finding that perfect recipe for your big party. The Mowia Recipes module will not only let you view recipes by type of dish, but you will also be able to narrow your search by selecting specific ingredients, the number of people served, etc.
While these types of features are available on some cooking sites, Mowia offers you three advantages. First, everything you need is in one place. You will no longer have to Google possibly dozens of sites to find the one that offers the tools or content you want. Second, by offering all types of content in one place, you will be able to learn from the experience of a much larger and diverse internet community. Third, since Mowia is still a forum, you can always ask others for thoughts or ideas. In the case of recipes, coming up empty handed doesn't mean you have to walk away with empty pockets. Simply ask other community members for ideas, and they may be able to come up with exactly what you're looking for.
Mowia also offers the tools you need to easily navigate and manage the massive amount of information available to you. Our myMowia section lets you bookmark and subscribe to forums or discussions that you may find of interest. Even though there are hundreds of forums available, you can pick and choose the content you want to see, and we'll deliver it to you. myMowia also offers control over how that information is served to you. We plan to constantly add functionality that lets you customize the site to your own liking.
Mowia is still very new, and we're launching with just one category, which is Technology & Internet. Eventually we will have forums to cover every topic imaginable. And if you don't see what you're looking for on the forums, send me an email at chris@mowia.com, and I will gladly consider your suggestions.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my site. It may be relatively small now, but the coming weeks, months, and years should be quite exciting.
